On the way to the village of Galanado, at a distance of approximately 6km from the main town, you will come across the Tower of Mpelonia. It served as the residence of the Venetian lord of the region during that period. Hanging on one of its outer walls, is the family crest of the Mpelonia family. Today, although abandoned, the tower continues to impress visitors with its dominating appearance and its panoramic view of the main town. Near the Tower, you will find the surviving twin chapel of Aghios Ioannis, which was used by both Orthodox and Catholic Christians (hence the reference as a ‘twin’ chapel).
