The Tower of Heimarrou, South-eastern Naxos, Za
The tower of Heimarrou is one of the most significant sites of Naxos. Found on the south-eastern side of the island, between the tallest mountain of the island- Za and the sea ( the route from Filoti to Kalanto). What makes this tower unique is its impressive height of 15m. Its outer structure is well preserved; build from local marbles with a width of 1.1m. It is generally believed that it was built during the Hellenistic years (4th- 3rd cent. B.C.) and is considered that somehow it is linked with the protection of the island’s marble production.
