The village of Sagkri is built on top of a hill with an endless view of the horizon. A characteristic of this region is the large number of byzantine churches found here. The monastery of Aghios Eleftherios is located in the village, housing today the Folklore Museum. Close to the village lies the island’s most significant archaeological site – Gyroulas with the recently restored Temple of Dimitra, accompanied by a museum worthwhile visiting. The village is well known for its Venetian towers, two of which, are located at Kato Sagkri, a preserved settlement, while a third one, the Tower of Palaiologos, has been renovated and is 20 minutes further away. Close to Sangkri, visitors can find some of the islands most beautiful beaches, that of Mikri Vigla, Kastraki and Alyko.
